SEYMOUR VRI BOWLS REPORT

Saturday 17th April 2021

Well, what a big weekend it was at the Seymour VRI Bowling Club. Presentation Night on Friday 16th followed by the postponed Annual Triples Tournament on Saturday 17th April.

Presentation Night was attended by 33 members and partners who were presented with a great 2 course meal courtesy of JBL Catering, with all in attendance agreeing that it was a delicious main followed by some excellent sweets.

Following the meal Secretary Steve McGregor made mention of the success of our GVBD Division 6 Pennant winning side, Helen Flint and Carol Harrop in winning the CBD Ladies State Pairs and then going on to win the CGM Region title which will now see them in action at Bendigo later this month competing for the Bowls Victoria State Title for which we wish them good luck. Congratulations also went to Kevin Cain, Brad Anderson and Joe Purcell on wining the CBD Men’s State Triples who unfortunately were not able to produce the goods at Region.

The club retained the SAD Trophy defeating Seymour 92 to 51 in February but were unable to compete with Whittlesea for the Berry Owen Trophy due to COVID-19 Restrictions, we will try again next year. Finally. congratulations went to the winners of the Tony O’Loughlin Memorial Triples in Terry Flynn, Stuart Crockett and Joe Purcell (s).

Thanks to those weary members who rose early on Saturday morning to prepare for the Annual 2 Bowls Triples Tournament which had been postponed from January due to extreme heat to prepare the greens and clubhouse for the influx of visiting bowlers from Cheltenham, Hurstbridge, Princess Park, Moorabbin, Shepparton Golf, Eildon, Wallan and Seymour.

Many thanks to our sponsors McPeake Painting Services, Craigieburn Safeway, Harry Northrope Foodland, Noonan’s Painting Services and VRI Inc. for providing the excellent prizemoney that the sides played for over 4 games of 12 ends with a break after the second game where players enjoyed a sumptuous 2 course lunch prepared by Veronica Noonan, Ann Purcell and a number of other members. Following the remaining 2 games players were entertained with the raffle draw where numerous prizes were collected by many in attendance and they gained sustenance from our every ready Bar Manager in Geoff Dixon whilst enjoying a tasty supper once again prepared by the caterers.

The presentations began with President Wayne handing out envelopes containing $10 for each game won to those sides fortunate enough to win games. The major prizemoney went to the Runners-up, who were decided by shots up after 3 sides finished with 3 wins each, the triples of Graeme Flint, Vince Muller and Max Hammond from Seymour finished 2nd with plus 28 shots whilst the winners with 4 games won were a last-minute fill in side from Seymour VRI after an early entry withdrew, congratulations go to Joshua Austin, Helen Flint and Wayne Flint.
