CBD DIVISION 1
KILMORE 87 (16) def Seymour VRI 62 (0)
What a huge difference a week and a different opponent made to the Seymour VRI losing on all rinks to a strong Kilmore side and suffering a 25-shot defeat. The loss dropping them to third on the CBD Division 1 ladder whilst Kilmore moved into top spot on their own.

Greg Jones rink of Phil Challis, Bill Dawe and Ian Cashill started poorly against the wily Kilmore veteran Phil Skehan, scoring a single shot early and finding themselves trailing by 15 shots on the 8ᵗʰ end 1 to 16. At the 14ᵗʰ end break Greg had managed to narrowly close the margin to be trailing by 9 shots with Phil lead 8-17. Phil scored a single on the 15ᵗʰ but Greg’s rink fought back winning the next 7 ends to actually lead 24 -18 with 3 ends to play. Unfortunately, they didn’t manage to score on the final 3 ends and although they led 24-23 with 1 end to play,
they dropped a 4 on that end and were defeated 24 to 27.

The selectors made an unforced change at second in Joe Purcell’s winning rink from last week bringing in Paul Rolfe and omitting Mario Furletti. Joe’s rink of Joy Cashill, Paul Rolfe and Brad Anderson were up against Trevor Young and never looked like getting to the front at any stage. They were unable to score in the first 5 ends to trail by 12 shots and by scoring on only 4 of the first 14 ends they trailed by 15 shots, 7 – 22 shots at the 14ᵗʰ end break. Although they were more consistent after the break winning 8 of the final 11 ends, they were unable to close the gap eventually losing 20 to 30 by a 10-shot margin.

Mick Szczykulski’s rink of Moreno Puppa, Helen Flint and Darren McDonald were against John Reimann and although only winning on 6 of the first 14 ends managed to be level 14 all at the break. Unfortunately, there must have been something in the water at the break and Mick’s rink were only able to win e of the final 11 ends scoring just 2 shots whilst John’s rink scored a further 16 shots, leaving Mick with a 12-shot
loss 18 to 30.

CBD DIVISION 2
Seymour VRI 63 (2) lost to KILMORE 95 (14)
In their first out for the season after having the bye in round 1, Seymour VRI on their home green, never got started and lost any chance of winning with only one rink successful whilst suffering heavy losses on the other 2 losing by 32 shots overall. Leaving them on the bottom of the CBD Division 2 ladder.

Peter Delzotto’s rink of Mark Brett, Kevin Cain and Stuart Crockett were our sole winning rink defeating Ron Neil’s rink. Peter scored 8 shots on 6 of the first 14 ends to find himself trailing by 8 shots at the drinks break. Peter’s rink found themselves trailing 11 to 21 after 18 ends but
winning the next 6 ends and scoring 14 shots allowed them to drop a single shot on the final end to run out 25 to 22 winners.

Mario Furletti back from Division One and skipping with a rink of John Crockett, Terry Flynn and Geoff Dixon trailed Ken Campbell’s rink by just a single shot at the 7ᵗʰ end but regularly dropping shots over the next 7 ends were trailing by 16 shots at the 14ᵗʰ end 9 to 25. Things got a little better winning 6 of the remaining 11 ends but not by enough as they suffered an 11-shot loss 20 to 31.

Returning for his first game of the year Wayne Noonan’s rink of Wayne Flint, Jim Furletti and Carol Harrop were unable to halt Alan Langdon’s march to a very solid victory. Scoring just 4 shots on 2 ends they trailed by 21 shots at the 14ᵗʰ end break 4 to 25. Although a better performance after the break allowed them to score on 5 of the remaining ends, they were never able to close the gap going down by 24 shots 18 to 42.

GVBD DIVISION 6
AVENEL 65 (14) def Seymour VRI 30 (0)
Venturing to Avenel this week proved too difficult a task for Seymour VRI, losing on both rinks, and coming home suffering a big loss by 35 shots overall. The result dropping them to fourth on the GVBD Division 6 ladder.

Congratulations to Jeannette Anderson, Terry Dowell and Jane Wilson on playing their first pennant games for the club.

Garry Bester’s rink of Terry Dowell, Darren Grieve and Anthony Nachtigal jumped out of the blocks against Josh Kelly’s rink to lead 5 nil after 3 ends and were level at 7 all after the 7ᵗʰ end however found themselves trailing 9 to 13 at the 14ᵗʰ end break. Although winning 5 of the
remaining 11 ends they were unable to match their oppositions scoring to finally go down by 10 shots 19 to 29.

Jane Wilson’s rink of Jeannette Anderson, Joshua Austin and Robert Richards started well lead 4 to 3 after 4 ends however managed just 2 further shots to trail 6 to 21 at the 14ᵗʰ end break. Following the break things didn’t get much better as they found scoring continued to be difficult, eventually suffering a 25- shot loss, 11 to 36.

Capping of a good day as skipper of the only winning rink Peter Delzotto then won the Taurus Meats Meat Tray for this week.

Round 2 of Midweek on the 17ᵗʰ November with Seymour VRI having the bye whilst round 2 of Saturday Pennant on the 21ˢᵗ November will see CBD Division One will look to redeem themselves at home to their Grand Final conquerors from last season Broadford, whilst CBD Division Two will be looking to break their duck at Broadford against the third placed side and GVBD Division Six be at home on the number 2 green to Rushworth with the loser possibly dropping out of the four.

The selectors have asked to remind all that sides will now be selected on Wednesday evenings giving them the opportunity to practice together on Thursday and Friday evenings.

Until next week.
