SEYMOUR VRI BOWLS REPORT
Saturday 9ᵗʰ January 2021

As we leave 2020 behind us and enter 2021 and the back half of our respective Pennant Seasons with all sides sitting in their respective top fours it was only GVBD Division 6 who resumed their competition with a winning start to the new year whilst the CBD pennant games do not resume until next week.

GVBD DIVISION 6

Mooroopna Golf 33 (0) lost to SEYMOUR VRI 56 (14)
With Nagambie having the bye we were presented with a great opportunity to go top of the ladder with a win over Mooroopna Golf at the Golf green. Seymour VRI, with both rinks up found themselves with a 13-shot lead at the 28ᵗʰ end break and playing solid bowls foe the remainder of the match went on to record an all rinks up win by 23 shots and move to the top of the Division 6 ladder.

Garry Bester’s rink of Alan Walton, Josh Austin and Jeff Rhue after scoring a single on the first end were put to the sword by Maree Formica’s rink and over the next 3 ends, found themselves trailing 1 to 9 after four ends. As they became accustomed to the green Garry’s rink found some momentum over the next 10 ends adding 20 shots whilst holding Maree’s rink to just 5 shots going into the 14ᵗʰ end break with a 7- shot lead 21 to 14. Following the break whilst not scoring heavily Garry’s rink won 9 of the remaining 11 ends adding a further 11 shots whilst keeping Maree’s rink to just singles on each of their 2 end wins, leaving Garry’s rink held a comfortable 16 shot winning margin 32 to 16.

Jane Wilson’s unavailability saw Mario Furletti fill in as skipper for her rink of Jeannette  Anderson, Terry Dowell and Carol Harrop who were matched against Valerie Paterson’s rink. With scores level at 4 all after 6 ends Mario’s rink won 6 of the next 8 ends moving out to handy 6 shot lead at the 14ᵗʰ end break 15 to 9. It was a very even game after the break whilst Mario’s rink won 7 of the remaining 11 ends, they were only able to add a further 9 shots whilst Val’s rink won just 4 end and were able to add another 8 shots to their total. In the end it was Mario’s rink holding firm to come away with a 7 shot win 24 to 17.
