SEYMOUR VRI BOWLS REPORT

Saturday 5th December 2020

Rain affected most of our games this weekend however Division One played through for a solid win whilst Divisions Two and Six were washed out. Midweek continue to search for their first win after going down to top of the ladder Kilmore by a narrow 3 shots overall.

CBD Men’s State Pairs Semi-Final Results saw Garry Bester/Joe Purcell go down to John Cujic/Steve Matcham (Eildon) 13 to 15 whilst Brad Anderson/Mick Szczykulski defeated Ben Gilchrist/ Paul Smitheram 18 to 5. However, in the final Brad and Mick went down to John and Steve 17 to 20, a great effort from all who entered.

Xmas Hamper and Wheelbarrow tickets at $2 each are now available from members and at the club, and will be drawn at the Club Xmas Party on 20th December.

CBD MIDWEEK 1st December

Seymour VRI 67 (4) lost to KILMORE 70 (12)

Unfortunately following on from last week’s bye and on our home green, Seymour VRI were able to record a substantial win on 1 rink whilst suffering severe losses on the other 2 to sister side Seymour and recording a narrow 7-shot defeat.  The loss seeing them sit fifth on the CBD Midweek ladder but just 12 points out of the four.

Peter Delzotto’s rink of Kevin Cain, Ron King and Garry Bester were pitted against Denis Marshall’s rink and after being level at 3 shots apiece after the 4th end, they gradually established their superiority to lead by 6 shots 14 to 8at the 14th end break. Following the break, they proceeded to rattle up 19 shots on the next 6 ends to race out to a 25-shot lead which was far too great a margin for the opposition to overhaul resulting in a 22 shot final winning margin 36 to 14.

Greg Jones’s rink of Terry Dowell, Shayne Stanley and Jane Wilson found themselves trailing Trevor Young’s rink by 7 shots after just 7 ends 4 to 11, however by winning 4 of the next 7 ends and scoring 8 shots found themselves trailing by just 4 shots at the 14th end break, 12 to 16. Coming out strongly after the break and winning 7 of the remaining 11 ends Greg’s rink scored a further 14 shots whilst allowing Trevor’s rink just 5 shots on their 4 end wins, this resulted in Greg’s rink recording a 5 shot win 26 to 21.

Mario Furletti’s rink of Terry Flynn, Jim Furletti and Bill Dawe were level with Phil Skehan’s rink after 10 ends but dropped 8 shots on the next 4 ends to trail at the 14th end by 8 shots 7 to 15. Following the break and winning just 4 of the remaining 11 ends and scoring just 6 shots they were no match for Phil’s rink who secured 13 shots in winning 7 of the remaining ends to ensure Mario’s rink suffered a severe 115 shot loss 13 to 28.

CBD DIVISION 1

SEYMOUR VRI 74 (14) def Eildon 64 (2)

Seymour VRI were at home and through the afternoon’s intermittent rain were able to complete their match against Eildon. Winning on 2 rinks and suffering a substantial loss on the other resulting in a 10-shot win for the home team.  With 3 of the four Division One matches completed (Seymour at home were a washout) this result allows Seymour VRI rise to second position on the CBD Division 1.

Joe Purcell’s rink of Kevin Cain, Paul Rolfe and Brad Anderson continued their winning form for the home team, this time against Steve Matcham’s rink, winning 8 ends to Steve’s 6 ends to lead by 5 shots at the 14th end break, 14 shots to 9. Winning 6 of the remaining 11 ends and scoring heavily including a 5 on the 25th and final end allowed Joe’s rink to score a further 15 shots to Steve’s 5 ends and just 7 shots, ensuring Joe’s rink ran out comfortable 13 shot winners 29 to 16.

Mick Szczykulski’s rink of Moreno Puppa, Geoff Neal and Helen Flint were up against Sharon Hall’s rink and whilst splitting winning ends at 7 a piece at the 14th end break it was Mick’s rink heavier scoring that saw them lead by 5 shots 18 to 13. Following the break Mick’s rink whilst scoring 6 singles and 1 two in winning 7 of the remaining 11 ends and allowing Sharon’s rink only 3 singles and a two on their 4 ends won enabled Mick’s rink to run out comfortable 9 shot winners 27 to 18.

Greg Jones rink of Phil Challis, Bill Dawe and Wayne Noonan once again started poorly to trail Jim Wheelhouse’s rink 1 to 9 after 7 ends, however, winning 6 consecutive ends and scoring 9 shots trailing by just a single shot at the 14th end 10 to 11. The break did Greg’s rink no favours as they left any semblance of form in the clubhouse to win just 3 of the remaining 11 ends scoring just 8 shots whilst Jim’s rink won 8 ends to score 19 shots and race away from Greg’s rink leaving them with a heavy 12 shot loss 18 to 30.

CBD DIVISION 2

Eildon 0 (8) drew with Seymour VRI 0 (8)

The long trek to Eildon saw the game result in a washout result, a draw, and splitting of the points 8 each. We had 1 rink tied whilst the other 2 trailed by not overwhelming margins and who knows what the final outcome may have been had the rains not interfered. With all matches in Division 2 recording wash-outs we find ourselves remaining in 5th place on the CBD Division 2 ladder just 2 points out of the top 4.

Mario Furletti’s rink of Terry Dowell, Anthony Nachtigal and Geoff Dixon split end wins 8 each, with Pieter Vanderhoek’s rink and after 16 ends played were level at 14 shots a piece before the rains forced them from the green. It was any ones game before the rains intervened.

Wayne Flint’s rink of Jim Tuckwell, Jim Furletti and John Crockett managed to win 7 of the 14 ends completed against Steve Hall’s rink scoring 10 by 3 shots at the 14th completed end 10 to 13 and the rain forced them from the green not to return. Although not an insurmountable margin who knows what may have been.

Peter Delzotto’s rink of Terry Flynn, Joshua Austin and Jeff Rhue won just 5 of the 14 ends completed against Ian Uthenwoldt’s who were able to score 12 shots on their 9 end wins. The rains coming and forcing them from the green may have given Peter’s rink a reprieve on the day.

GVBD DIVISION 6

Nagambie 0 (7) drew with Seymour VRI 0 (7)

After commencing the game at Nagambie under threatening skies and completing just 7 ends, with one rink just up and the other just down whilst leading by a single shot overall 10 to 9 the forecast rains arrived forcing the players from the green and resulting in a washout result, a draw, and splitting of the points 7 each.

Jane Wilson’s rink of Jeannette Anderson, Brendan Challis and Carol Harrop were leading Colin Miller’s rink by 2 shots after winning 4 of those played ends on the 7th end 6 to 4, but with the weather causing a cessation to play we will never know what might have been.

Garry Bester’s rink of Alan Walton, Darren Grieve and Stuart Crockett trailed Eddie Dunne’s rink by a single shot after winning just 2 of the 7 ends played 4 to 5 although just conceding singles on their 5 losing ends.  As was the case with the other rink the weather closed in causing a cessation of play.

Winner of the Taurus Meats, Meat Tray for this week was Darren Grieve, with a six pack to Veronica and the Wine to “Delzo”.

Next Week’s Matches
