No pennant reports this week but we do have a report on the action from the Men’s Club Pairs Championship played on Christmas Eve between Brad Anderson and Mick Szczykulski (s) against Joe Purcell and Greg Jones (s).

In what was to be a game of fluctuations Purcell and Jones started with a 4 on the first end whilst Anderson and Szczykulski countered with a 2 on the very next end. Over the next 5 ends whilst Anderson and Szczykulski added 4 shots from 3 ends won Jones and Purcell added a
further 4 shots from their 2 end wins to lead by a single shot 8 to 7 at the completion of the 7ᵗʰ end.
Purcell and Jones applied the pressure over the next six ends winning four of them and adding a further 11 shots whilst Anderson and Szczykulski won just 2 ends for a meagre 3 shot gain which found the trailing 10 to 19 after 1 ends.
Following that onslaught from Purcell and Jones the game took on a massive change of fortune as Anderson and Szczykulski were to dominate the nest 4 ends scoring 10 shots whilst holding Purcell and Jones scoreless which allowed them to go into the 18ᵗʰ and final end holding a single shot lead 20 to 19.
The pressure was on for all four bowlers as the title rested on the result of this last end which saw Anderson and Szczykulski score 2 shots enabling them to run out Champions by a narrow 3 shot margin, what a strange game bowls is as Purcell and Jones went from chocolates to
boiled lollies in the space of an amazing 5 end turnaround.
Brad and Mick will represent the club at the CBD Champion of Champion Pairs early in 2021.
